first album recorded in America

I’m an Artist (Major Ego Attack)

In New York I met a lot of people introducing themselves that way, “I’m an Artist”. So much so in fact that I had to leave town. I took a Greyhound bus and after a two months stint in New Orleans, took another bus to Miami. It felt good living by the ocean. Like the rest of the album this song was recorded in my room at the old Hotel Sinclair (now gone), on a 4 tracks cassette recorder. It was a place where many old Cuban men stumbled in and often left a few years later…feet first. Many unidentified species of bugs shared the room with me. It was not unusual that, in the middle of the night, I had to enter one of these old compadre’s room to turn their radio off. They had fallen asleep to it completamente borracho with the thing on full blast. But it was all nice and warm. Food was cheap and good. The rent was low and the room had a certain old world charm to it. I could rock it out and nobody cared. God bless the Cuban People.
